This is a real classic. In 2001, farmers in Japan grew “square” watermelons to save space. This is being done by inserting the melons into glass cases while they are still growing. The watermelons are – supposedly – exactly the right size for Japanese fridges.
The “square” watermelon became so notorious that it was even featured on an episode of The Simpsons. While in Tokyo, Homer buys one of these melons which promptly loses its shape, falls, and gets splattered.
The melons were sold for roughly 10000 Yen (60 Euro). I wonder if they still exist.
(Note to CNN: A square is a two-dimensional shape. What you wanted is a cube.)

In europe we do have the tendency to Bio food. I’m realy sure that’s another tendency. I hope that’s not the vanguard of price for mainstream trend of solid food
Gotta love these completely absurd watermelons =D
