Beautiful Japanese Barcodes

There is a Japanese company called D-Barcode
which took on a mundane, boring, and unimaginative part of our consumer life and gave it a makeover: Barcodes. This is one of those ideas they are so simple, that it took a designer genius to come up with it. The result, I may say, is absolutely cool:

    Nice idea, but barcodes will soon be a thing of the past as they are being replaced by RFID tags and newer technologies.

    I just tested with a hand scanner. None of the above are scannable, probably because they’ve been scaled down. On the site, only the “Flowers” and “MAD” magazine codes are read.
