Japanese are obsessed with “cuteness”. Part of that seems to be that the bigger a girl’s eyes, the better. Characters in anime usually have really huge eyes. Anyway, since surgery can only do so much for a woman’s eyes, there are now these contact lenses which give the impression of bigger eyes…

Sounds scary? It certainly looks weird…

Japanese beauty ideals nonewithstanding, I think these lenses catapult a woman right into the uncanny valley.

The module comes with a little camera that turns your DS into a mirror, and the software will guide your exercises on the second monitor. There are two videos which show how it works in practice:

I am skeptical how well this would work, but my Japanese friend is convinced by the method. She says this is a good alternative if you do not wish to have surgery to be more beautiful. And, to be honest, if it keeps girls from going under the knife then that counts as a good thing in my book.
