news.com.au reports that a Japanese man started a petition to enable him to get married to a Mangacharacter:

Taichi Takashita launched an online petition aiming for one million signatures to present to the government to establish a law on marriages with cartoon characters.

Within a week he has gathered more than 1000 signatures through.

“I am no longer interested in three dimensions. I would even like to become a resident of the two-dimensional world,” he wrote.

“However, that seems impossible with present-day technology. Therefore, at the very least, would it be possible to legally authorise marriage with a two-dimensional character?”

“Eyeball Father” Ghost Mobile Phone Straps

§ October 30th, 2007 § Filed under Japan § Tagged , , , , , , , § No Comments

These little beasts are not really extremely wacky - there are lots of dumb little accessories for mobile phones available in Germany, and I presume, in most other countries - but I thought they were quite appropriate, seeing as how it’s Halloween and all.

Eyeball Straps

These are fashioned after “Medama no Oyaji”, (”Eyeball Father”) from a manga and anime series from the 60s. Each of the figurines is basically a tiny baby with a huge eyeball for a head. Eyeball Father was once human, but died and was reincarnated as an anthropomorphic version of his own eyeball.

Eyeball Straps

There are baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball and tennis variations of this thing. You can buy them at StrapYa World for 420 Yen each (about 2.50 Euro).

My mobile phone will of course remain strap-free.
