Strange and Weird (and Cool) Things from Japan

The weird thing here is not only Ronald McDonald’s sudden gender change, nor the stark colors, but actually the fact that European/American McDonalds hasn’t done this long ago: Remember, sex sells. And while Ronald may have been a great tool marketing to kids in the past, those youngsters are over-sexualized these days anyway. Not only in Japan.
Here are three more weird Japanese commercials.
Pokemon Bread:
Now, Pokemon has been a global hit, proving that not only the Japanese are weird. However I think Pokemon bread would not sell here… and the voice at the very end is a classic, too.
More Pretz:
The pretz girl is always nice. Ironically, the two guys have way bigger tits than the chick… and I do find the commercial weird enough for inclusion here, even if it’s not as cool as some of the other Pretz videos.
Lemon soda:
Uhm…. right. One wonders whether to have sympathy for that lemon, or envy it. I am sure G. is in the later camp.
I thought this was actually cute:
It’s not really wacky though - so consider it a bonus. ;)

Ramen noodles are probably one of the foods everybody thinks of when they consider Japan (right after Sushi and weird squid). Of course there are also instant Ramen. So there’s something to still your hunger. But what to do if you lust for something, ehm, else? Japan has an answer for that, too, of course, and the Japanese would not be Japanese if they were not to combine the two ideas into one economic package: The Cup Nude.

Doesn’t look like much?

Now we’re getting somewhere. What awaits the intreprid, er, hungry Japanese customer once he opens this, eh, delightful package?

If you haven’t had enough yet, there’s also the side of the package with a schematic explaining how this relates to noodles after all:

I must admit to being a little grossed out right now. And I am not sure this is edible… but would you really want to, anyway?

Pandas are cute.
Japanese like cute things.
And everybody has to eat. What could therefore be more logical than this product?
This reminds me of the Virgin Mary fish stick and in a grilled cheese sandwhich. I think someone could make good money making a toaster like the Panda Toaster which burns images of Jesus on the toast.
Sanrio, never shy to produce a Hello Kitty product, surely had this idea: The Hello Kitty toaster.

Bon appetite!
