“Eyeball Father” Ghost Mobile Phone Straps

These little beasts are not really extremely wacky – there are lots of dumb little accessories for mobile phones available in Germany, and I presume, in most other countries – but I thought they were quite appropriate, seeing as how it’s Halloween and all.

These are fashioned after “Medama no Oyaji”, (“Eyeball Father”) from a manga and anime series from the 60s. Each of the figurines is basically a tiny baby with a huge eyeball for a head. Eyeball Father was once human, but died and was reincarnated as an anthropomorphic version of his own eyeball.

There are baseball, soccer, basketball, volleyball and tennis variations of this thing. You can buy them at StrapYa World for
420 Yen each (about 2.50 Euro).

My mobile phone will of course remain strap-free.

School Girl Uniform Cell Phone Straps

The Japanese people have an unquestioned fetish for schoolgirls, especially in uniform. So it comes as little surprise that a company is selling little straps shaped like school girl uniforms that you can add to your cellular phone.

Supposedly their cellular phone straps represent the 20 most popular school girl uniforms.

The straps, if you want them, are available from StrapYa for 300 Yen each, which is about 1.85 Euro.

The Sony Mouse Phone

Apple has the iPhone and Sony has the… Mouse Phone. I don’t want to call it a “telephone mouse”, because that would, to me, sound like a mouse you attach to your phone.

Instead, the VN-CX1A is a mouse that is really a telephone. You use it for your PC until you receive a call, at which moment you pick it up and use it to talk.

Where to begin? The basic idea of combining multiple functions into one is very Japanese, and rather commendable. But I somehow doubt that this item is practical. What do you do, for example, when you wish to actually use your computer while talking on the phone?
