Taichi Takashita launched an online petition aiming for one million signatures to present to the government to establish a law on marriages with cartoon characters.
Within a week he has gathered more than 1000 signatures through.
“I am no longer interested in three dimensions. I would even like to become a resident of the two-dimensional world,” he wrote.
“However, that seems impossible with present-day technology. Therefore, at the very least, would it be possible to legally authorise marriage with a two-dimensional character?”
Reportedly, while it is not sure whether Takashita was serious, some of the people who signed the petition are.
I’ve heard rumors that a co-worker of mine is marrying soon. Luckily, his girlfriend seems to be immune to the desires that normal females have: Hello Kitty merchandise. Then again, she’s not Japanese. Otherwise, he may be in danger of having to buy these Hello Kitty wedding rings.
The set has a male and a female version; the hello kitty faces of the ring for the men are actually hidden on the inside. Not that it actually makes it any better…
The woman’s version proudly displays the Hello Kitty face, along with two tiny 0.02 ct diamonds.
I can so imagine Gollum holding one of these up, chanting “My preciousssss!”.
The rings cost 189000 Yen (about 1161 Euro). But I know that if my girlfriend actually wanted me to buy these for our wedding, I’d sit down and think long and hard about that marriage.
